A FlySafair flight from Durban to Johannesburg turned tragic when a passenger died on board, prompting the airline to offer counselling services to affected travellers and staff.

The incident happened on flight FA417 on Monday. Before departure, medical staff at King Shaka International Airport examined the passenger and cleared them fit to travel. However, while in the air, the passenger’s condition suddenly worsened.

Cabin crew, assisted by medical professionals who were among the passengers, tried everything they could to save the individual. Sadly, the person passed away before the plane landed.
FlySafair acknowledged how distressing the event was for everyone on board and thanked passengers for their patience and understanding. The airline confirmed that its crew are trained to manage in-flight medical emergencies and will review the incident internally to identify any lessons going forward.

The company also expressed gratitude to the medical professionals who stepped forward during the emergency. Support and counselling services are now being made available to both passengers and staff who may have been affected by the traumatic experience.
