A woman was found murdered in the early hours of Thursday morning at a residential property in Parkgate, KwaZulu-Natal, following an alleged domestic altercation with her boyfriend.
The victim, whose identity has not yet been established, was discovered after reports that an incident had occurred during New Year’s Day celebrations.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa spokesperson Prem Balram, three men arrived at the organisation’s offices requesting urgent assistance.
They initially claimed that the woman had been shot during an altercation. Officers accompanied the men to the scene and proceeded on foot due to a narrow driveway leading to the residence.
Upon arrival, the woman was found lying on her back and showing no signs of life. An assessment confirmed that she was deceased.
Balram said no gunshot wounds were detected, contradicting the initial report. The injuries observed were consistent with an assault.
A bush slasher was found next to the body, and the injuries appeared to be consistent with the suspected weapon.
A towel and a dish containing blood-stained water were discovered near the scene, suggesting attempts may have been made to clean the area.
Further investigation revealed that the woman was allegedly involved in a domestic altercation. Her boyfriend fled the scene and could not be immediately located.
A case of murder has been opened and police investigations are ongoing.
