Media Statement POTCHEFSTROOM – Monyashe Thembeni (35) and Orekeng Mooketsi (32) were remanded in custody when they appeared in the Lichtenburg Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 30 January 2025, for damaging essential infrastructure. The duo will reappear in court on Tuesday, 4 February 2025, for formal bail application. The accused’ s court appearance stemmed from their arrest at around 19:00 on Tuesday, 28 January 2025, after police responded to a complaint about two males who were allegedly seen damaging and removing the roof of a small structure adjacent to the water reservoir in Burgersdorp, Lichtenburg. In effecting the arrest, the police also found the pair in possession of a water pump. The North West Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Patrick Asaneng lauded the members for the swift reaction and cooperation with members of the community, which led to the arrest. He further warned that tampering with and / or damaging essential infrastructure is a pure criminality that interferes with the provision or distribution of basic services. Ends
