Media Statement KIMBERLEY – On 29 July 2024, a 40-year-old father from Paballelo in Upington was sentenced to 25 years’ direct imprisonment for raping his biological daughter. The incident took place on 01 January 2024 at approximately 03:00 when the victim was sitting with her friend outside their home. Her father called her in and sent her friend away. He started touching his 15 years old daughter inappropriately and threatened her with a knife when she resisted, then raped her. Afterwards, he threatened her with death if she told anyone about the incident. The incident was reported to the police and the accused was subsequently arrested on 2 January 2024. He was found guilty of rape and was convicted in the Upington Regional Court recently.
The management of the SAPS welcomed the conviction and the commended the meticulous investigation by Sergeant Josef Van Wyk attached to Upington Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit. Detectives in the Northern Cape remains committed in ensuring justice is served for the victims of GBVF crimes
