Media Statement EASTERN CAPE – On 8 January 2025, the Asset Forfeiture Investigation (AFI) of the Priority Crime Specialised Investigation (PCSI) in Gqeberha was granted by the Makhanda High court the forfeiture order for a Chevrolet Utility bakkie vehicle worth more than R119 000 which was used as instrumentality during a transportation of drugs. It is alleged that on 17 September 2023 at about 16:00 at Spring street in Cradock, the South African Police Service K9 Unit members received information regarding a vehicle that was suspected to be selling drugs which was a Chevrolet Utility. The vehicle was spotted by the police and stopped. Inside the vehicle it is reported that there were two occupants which were Siphiwo Dube (44) and Thembani Magenuka (31). The vehicle was searched and the police found Tik weighed 0.33 kilograms and the suspects were arrested on the spot. The criminal case is still ongoing and it was remanded to 22 April 2025 for trial. The preservation order prohibiting the use of the vehicle was issued followed by the granting of the forfeiture order on 8 January 2025. The vehicle will be sold on auction and the proceeds will be deposited into the Criminal Assets Recovery Account (CARA) for State use. Ends
