More than 50 people have been killed after armed men attacked two villages in the Bassa district of Plateau State, located in central Nigeria. The assailants, believed to be cattle rustlers, stormed the communities, shooting and hacking residents before fleeing.
At least 51 bodies were recovered by emergency teams, while dozens more sustained injuries. Survivors in the area held a mass burial for the victims as communities mourned the devastating loss.

Plateau State is known for its ethnic and religious diversity, often making it a flashpoint for violent clashes. Tensions between predominantly Christian farming communities and mostly Muslim herders have led to repeated outbreaks of violence over the years.
In addition to the killings, homes were reportedly looted and destroyed during the raid. The incident marks the second deadly attack in the region within a week, further highlighting ongoing concerns about the security situation in central Nigeria.
