Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa has issued a recall affecting more than 21,000 vehicles across the region due to potential safety issues. The recall covers Ford Ranger, Everest, Puma, and EcoSport models built between 2021 and 2025.
The main concern involves certain Ranger and Everest models with 3.0L V6 engines, produced between June 2022 and March 2025. Investigations revealed a possible defect in the left-side camshaft sprocket, which could fracture and cause the engine to stall unexpectedly, increasing the risk of an accident.
Additionally, some vehicles may experience a frozen infotainment screen, including the rear-view camera. A malfunction while reversing could show an incorrect image or delay, creating a potential safety hazard.
The recall affects a total of 21,736 vehicles, with the majority in South Africa (20,693), followed by Namibia, Botswana, and Eswatini.
Ford has confirmed it will provide software updates and repairs free of charge once available, expected in the third quarter of 2025. Customers will be notified to schedule service appointments at their nearest dealer.
Vehicle owners can check if their Ford is affected by entering their VIN on Ford’s recall website or by contacting the Customer Relationship Centre directly.
