More than ten motorists, including a taxi driver, were arrested for drunk driving in KwaZulu-Natal over the Easter weekend.
Law enforcement also issued several citations for other traffic violations. A major roadblock operation was conducted near the Qalakabusha Correctional Services Centre in Empangeni, on the province’s north coast.
Authorities confirmed that the arrested individuals are currently in custody. The provincial MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Siboniso Duma, is calling for six-year prison sentences to discourage drunk driving.
