Ouaddou warns Pirates’ biggest test is still to come
Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou believes his side are finding their rhythm, but admits their biggest test of the season is still ahead.
Pirates have made an almost perfect start to the campaign. They have played eight matches across the Betway Premiership and MTN8.
Their only setback has been one draw. The Buccaneers have also reached the MTN8 final for the fifth consecutive year.
They will face Mamelodi Sundowns in the final. In the Betway Premiership, Pirates have won four matches and drawn one.
Their latest performance saw them cruise to a commanding 4-0 victory over Kruger United. Ouaddou was pleased with the progress his team has made.
“I think we are cruising. It is only the beginning of the season, but the boys are doing well,” said Ouaddou.
“We are getting the momentum and tempo. We have a lot of big games coming. I think the MTN8 final will be a good game. It will be our first real test.”
However, Pirates will now turn their attention to the CAF Champions League.
Ouaddou says the competition is one of the club’s major targets this season.
“But now we are going to rest the boys because we have the Champions League to focus on, because it is one of our targets this season,” he said.
The Pirates coach also wants his team to improve on last season’s disappointing campaign in Africa.
“We know that last season we completely fell in this competition and now it is really a big target for us,” Ouaddou said.
