Ouaddou explains Pedersen’s signing by Pirates
Orlando Pirates coach, Abdeslam Ouaddou, has explained why the club signed Norwegian striker Sebastian Pedersen.
Pedersen, 27 years old, joined Pirates from Norway’s Sogndal IL. His signing surprised many.
The forward has scored 51 goals and provided eight assists in 117 matches for Sogndal and Moss FK over the past four years. This season alone, he has already netted eight goals in 14 matches.
Ouaddou said Orlando Pirates wanted a striker with the ability to finish the chances they create, and Pedersen fits that profile.
“Our scouts were looking for a type of striker who could help us improve our conversion rate,” Ouaddou explained.
“Last year we were one of the teams creating the most chances in Africa, but we needed a striker to finish the job. We have trained him and believe he will bring skill, fresh energy, and quality to the team.
“That’s why it was important for him to travel with us to Spain to get used to the squad, because even if you are a top player, you need time to adapt to a new environment and teammates.”
Since Pedersen was already with the team in Spain, Orlando Pirates fans can expect to see him on the pitch this Saturday. Pirates will kick off the new season against Milford FC at the Orlando Amstel Arena.
