Media Statement FREE STATE – Operation Vala Umgodi team; South African Police Service, South African National Defence Force, Department of Home Affairs, Provincial Traffic Department, Border Management Authority and Private Security Companies have been strategically deployed on National Roads and secondary routes in Free State Province to increase policing visibility. A roadblock was assembled on R30 Provincial Route used by motorists between Free State, Gauteng and North-West towns. A total number of 36 undocumented persons were arrested during the operation. The Proactive team was despatched to respond to a complaint of Robbery with firearm in Thabong. The members followed up information and apprehended 28 year old suspect and recovered a Black Gas gun used during the robbery. Various operational concepts continued along borderline in Ficksburg/ Ladybrand areas as well as Ports Of Entry. A Vehicle Check Point was held at the intersection of N8 National Road and R26 Route. Members stopped a minibus and during the search a Norinco 9mm pistol loaded with eight (8) live ammunition rounds was found. A 49 year old male was arrested for Unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition and a case docket opened at Ladybrand police station. All suspects will appear before court soon.
