Media Statement FREE STATE – Earlier in the week operators deployed for Operation Vala Umgodi received intelligence on a planned house robbery in Virginia. A Way-lay and observation were kept on the route between Masimong and Virginia. The identified vehicle, a Toyota Avanza used by suspects was spotted on Queens Way and a chase ensued. The suspects jumped out of vehicle and fled on foot. Members apprehended four (4) male suspects aged between 31 and 47. A Norinco Star 9mm pistol with three (3) live ammunition and a BLOW P29 blanks pistol with two (2) blank cartridges were found in possession of the suspects. A case of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition with an additional charge of Contravention of the Immigration Act was opened at Virginia Police Station. Another team arrested three (3) undocumented persons in possession of presumably stolen property; copper cable and aluminum. The members were busy with patrols in Orkney when they stopped the suspects near Oppenheimer Stadium and discovered that they were in possession of sixteen (16) rolls of copper weighing at 80,70 kilograms and thirty-two (32) rolls of aluminium weighing at 109,90 kilograms. A case of possession of suspected stolen property; copper and aluminium with additional charge of tampering and damaging of essential infrastructure was opened at Orkney Police Station. All suspects will appear before Court soon.
