Media Statement POLOKWANE – The vigilance and swift action of the Vala Umgodi Task team in the Vhembe District led to the discovery of counterfeit goods worth R630, 000, including shoes and clothing, at a business premise in Thohoyandou town on Sunday, 15 December 2024. The task team conducted raids around Thohoyandou when at around 10:30, they came across a shop that had been abandoned by the owner upon seeing the police. Upon further investigation, the team discovered counterfeit clothing bearing well-known brands such as Nike, Louis Vuitton, and Gucci. The relevant authorities, including SARS, were contacted, and the goods were seized and registered at the Thohoyandou SAPS. Additionally, five other suspects were issued fines for offences including selling illicit cigarettes, contravening the Road Traffic Act, and drinking liquor in public. The team continued their operations at identified illegal mining sites, such as the Madonsi mining site in the Malamulele policing area, where two illegal immigrants aged 28 and 39, were arrested. The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, commended the officers for their vigilance and thoroughness in carrying out their duties. Ends
