Media Statement LEJWELEPUTSWA – Operation “Vala Umgodi” members are making inroads in the fight against crime in Lejweleputswa as one of the focus areas in the province with illegal mining activities. The multi-disciplinary approach has its sights fixed on eradicating any activities that are linked to illegal mining in the area. While on the other hand assisting with crime fighting. While on patrol, members conducted stop and searches that led to the arrest of 90 people. The suspects were found in possession of drugs, dangerous weapons, possession of gold bearing material and illicit cigarettes. While others were arrested for contravention of the Immigration Act. In one of the disruptive operations, members proceeded to Kutlwanong where they arrested one suspect after he was found with gold bearing material as well as illegal mining equipment. In Mourriespruit Shaft, members tactically approached and found abandoned equipment used in the illegal mining activities and it was seized. On arrival at the two towns of Bothaville and Vierfontein, the group surprised shop owners and confiscated illicit cigarettes and expired foods. One of the houses in G-Hostel Thabong, was visited after members received information that it was used in dealing in drugs and dagga. Operation Vala Umgodi continues in the areas falling under Lejweleputswa and Moqhaka. Ends
