Media Statement FREE STATE – On Thursday 16 January 2024 a team of Operation Vala uMgodi Combat, Proactive operators and Crime Intelligence Gatherers operationalised intelligence about copper cables theft and processing happening at Adamson Vlei Farm in Virginia area. The team arrived at the farm, cordoned off the scene and conducted thorough search. One (1) Black heavy-duty scale, bundles of copper cables weighing at 522.10 kilograms, separate cut copper cables kept in a White helmet weighing at 2.90 kilograms and Aluminium lead metal sheets weighing at 195.80 kilograms were found on the farm premises. The total value of metals seized is estimated at R89 940.00. Two (2) males aged 30 and 41 were arrested. A case of Intentional tampering with, damaging or destroying Essential Infrastructure/ Possession of presumably stolen property was opened at Virginia Police Station. The investigation team will look into adding further charges in terms of The Criminal Matters Amendment Act; Criminal Law Amendment Act and Prevention of Organised Crime.
The two (2) suspects will appear before Court in Virginia on Monday 20 January 2024.
