Media Statement NORTHERN CAPE – Operation Vala Umgodi multi-disciplinary teams conducted patrols around mining areas focusing on illegal mining and other related activities in Kleinzee on Wednesday, 04 December 2024. During the execution of the operation, information was received about alleged illegal mining activities occurring at a private commercial land in Kleinzee. The team operationalised the information, intercepted the illegal miners, and arrested fifteen suspects aged between 20 and 46. The suspects failed to produce documentation that allowed them to be in the country legally. Police confiscated tools and equipment believed to be used in the commission of illicit mining activities. The public is reminded to report illegal mining activities to SAPS Crime Stop number on 08600 10111 or via the MySAPS App. Ends
