LIMPOPO – Operation Vala Umgodi continues to make significant impact in the Province, particularly in Moletsi under the Capricorn District. The community had been experiencing issues in relation with illegal sand miners destroying their village, roads, and tributaries, putting future generations at risk. The Tactical Joint Operations Centre (TACJOC) Limpopo, led by Lt/Col Mamphaswa Seabi, stepped in to address these concerns. On Wednesday 02 October 2024, Lt Col Seabi visited Moletjie FM Community radio station and educated the community on these crucial topics: – The Dangers of Vigilantism: It’s illegal and punishable by law to take the law into your own hands. – Understanding Illegal Mining: What constitutes illegal mining of sand and minerals. – Stopping Illegal Mining: Steps to take to prevent illegal mining. – Economic Impact: How illegal mining affects the country’s economy. – Life Threats: The risks posed by open holes to human and animal life. The community had the opportunity to ask questions, and their concerns were adequately addressed. With Operation Vala Umgodi, the police aim to squeeze criminal activities to zero, ensuring a safer and more secure environment for all. This high-density operation has already shown success in Limpopo, with arrests made during the initiative. Ends
