Media Statement KIMBERLEY – The police “Vala Umgodi” illicit mining operations in the Northern Cape continue to close the net on illicit mining activities for the week commencing on Monday, 01 July 2024. Police and the South African National Defence Force conducting “Vala Umgodi” operations in the Namakwa district arrested seven (7) foreign nationals for Contravention of the Immigration Act and confiscated numerous illicit mining equipment and suspected diamond bearing gravel in and around Bontakoei, Koeingnaas and Twee Pad mining areas. The suspects were processed by the Department of Home Affairs Immigration Services for court purposes. Police also issued fines for Contravention of the National Road Traffic Act offences at different vehicle check points around Kommaggas and Hondeklipbaai. Illicit mining has detrimental financial impact on the state, employees, companies and the country because of loss of revenue. If you SEE something SAY something.
