Media Statement KIMBERLEY – Operation Vala Umgodi multi-disciplinary team celebrated the international Mandela day on Thursday, 18 July 2024, under the theme, “Its still in our hands to combat poverty and inequality”. The police and the SANDF elected to celebrate the day at Shalom Day Care Centre in Greenpoint Kimberley and the Kleinsee School for children with special needs as well as at Kleinzee Creche. The team in Kimberley led by Colonel Judy Gogotya (SAPS) and Captain Danny Masebe (SANDF) visited the Shalom Day Care Centre. The multi facet ECD institution extended its offerings by providing daily meals to the Diamond Park/Greenpoint Community through their soup kitchen. The team together with other stakeholders handed over food and cooking utensils and spent the day cleaning a filthy open space in front of the care centre. The community of Greenpoint and children were served with a warm meal prepared at the centre’s kitchen. The team in Kleinzee under the Command of Lt Colonel Gert Nel (SAPS) and Lieutenant Maddock (SANDF) collectively facilitated the opening of a sandpit play park at a local creche that was constructed by members of the SANDF and continued to hand over gifts and goodies, that include toiletries at Kleinzee school for children with special needs. The Kleinsee community was also served with warm soup and bread at an open veld in Kleinzee. Operation Vala Umgodi will continue to collectively participate in efforts to address the root causes of crime through taking care of the most vulnerable in our midst and providing a safe and secure environment.
