Media Statement CAPE TOWN – The eradication of firearms from our communities yielded success when members of Operation Shanela arrested suspects for the possession of unlicensed firearms respectively on Tuesday evening, 12 March 2024. The members searched a premises in Dahlia Street, Heinz Park and confiscated a firearm with ammunition. They arrested a 29-year-old suspect for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Furthermore the members searched a premises in NY55, Gugulethu and arrested two males, aged 24 and 25, when the members found a firearm with ammunition in the house. Both men could not produce firearm licenses and were arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The suspects will make their respective court appearances in the Athlone Magistrates’ court once they have been charged. Ends
