KIMBERLEY – Weekly high density operations were executed across the Northern Cape Province commencing from Monday, 15 July 2024. Police actions were executed in problematic areas, this included crime intelligence driven operations, roadblocks, vehicle check points, high visibility patrols, compliance inspections, and stop and search actions. Focus was on the policing of contact crimes, property related crimes, drug related crimes, and illegal liquor outlets. During the weeklong operation, 297 suspects were arrested for crimes, including possession of drugs, dealing in drugs, illegal dealing in liquor, attempted murder, assault GBH and burglary. This includes the arrest of 96 wanted suspects who were traced and apprehended by detectives. The suspects were arrested after alluding law enforcement for crimes ranging from business robbery, rape and assault GBH. A total of 6 141 persons and 3731 vehicles were stopped and searched during the actions. Ten (10) unlicensed liquor outlets were closed, and 1289 litres of alcohol was confiscated. Efforts led to the confiscation of dangerous weapons and a considerable amount of drugs, including dagga, Tik, and mandrax tablets. Community engagements and outreach programs were conducted in all districts to address the needs of the community and to address concerns, including substance abuse, school bullying, dangerous weapons, alcohol abuse, and GBVF related crimes. These disruptive actions will continue throughout the province in high crime areas in order to hinder criminal activities. Communities are commended for reporting valuable information that led to the arrest of perpetrators and to continue aiding the police by exposing criminals. Ends
