Media Statement NELSPRUIT – The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, led a successful Operation Shanela in Verena today, Thursday 02 January 2025, focusing on tackling stocktheft in the area of Verena. The sting operation resulted in the confiscation of 26 suspected stolen cattle and a man has been taken in for questioning in relation to the recovery of the livestock. Meanwhile earlier today, a man was isaued with a fine for being found with unbranded livestock, demonstrating the effectiveness of the operation in cracking down on illegal activities related to stocktheft. A Police Chopper as well as other resources were availed during this Operation in order to assist the Stocktheft Unit in addressing the challenge at hand
Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi further emphasized the commitment of the SAPS in Mpumalanga to investigating and resolving stocktheft cases, demonstrating Police’s dedication to serving and protecting the community. The General also welcomed the progress made during the operation and reassured the public that similar operations will be carried out in other areas to address the problem of stocktheft. “We have taken the complaints made by stocktheft owners very seriously and have responded with concrete action to address this issue once and for all,” said the General.
