Media Statement EKURHULENI – The SAPS multidisciplinary Operation Shanela remains deliberate in reducing crime in all hot spots areas in the Ekhuruleni District. A total of 275 suspects were nabbed for various offences across the District since Friday, 03 January 2025 to Sunday, 05 January 2025. Three liquor outlets were shut down. Amongst the suspects, 188 were nabbed by the Detectives while tracing the suspects on Saturday which started in the morning to the afternoon. Other suspects were nabbed during operations held at stations across Ekurhuleni since Friday evening to Sunday morning. In Brakpan, on Friday 03 January 2025, two females aged 36 and 43 who robbed one of the stores at Station road were arrested and both found with replica firearms resembling real pistols, a holster, flash voucher that belongs to the shop that worth R1500, 00, which was forcefully generated from the till at the shop after employees were threatened with replica firearms by the suspects.
Ekurhuleni District Commissioner, Major General Anna Sithole expressed pride to the members of law Enforcement agencies involved for the commitment they have displayed in ensuring safety to the communities, and that those who transgress the law are brought to book.
