Media Statement NELSPRUIT – Through Operation Safer Festive Season Operation, SAPS Public Order Policing (POP) members have arrested a male suspect (25) in Hazyview during a stop and search operation. Upon searching the vehicle, they found a rifle at the back seat and more than 70 live rounds of ammunition as well as two magazines. According to a report, after dis discovery, the driver was arrested and charged for unlawful possession of a firearm with ammunition. The suspect was also found with bank notes that are damaged as well as other items. On preliminary investigation, it was discovered that the suspect is currently on bail as per the Acornhoek case for possession of an unlicensed firearm and also for a case of house robbery at Kabokweni. Police also suspect that the vehicle could have possibly been stolen as it was found with inauthentic registration number plates. Police investigations continue. Police cannot rule out possibilities of more charges added against the suspect as the investigation continues. The suspect is due to appear at the White River Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 17 December 2024. The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi has applauded Police for doing a sterling work on this Festive Season Operation thereby arresting the suspect and recover a high calibre firearm with ammunition.
