PALMIETFONTEIN – As people prepare themselves to enjoy an extended break during the long weekend an influx off people is expected in the Joe Gqabi District, during this time period men and woman in blue together with other law enforcement agencies will be on duty to make sure everyone is safe and secure. On the 16 April 2025 a multi-disciplinary high-density Operation Paseka was launched by Mayor V Stokhwe of the Senque municipality and Major General Lindelwa Vellem the Joe Gqabi District Commissioner. The event was executed at the R726 between Zastron and the R393 to the Tellebridge border gate. The operation was jointly conducted by the members of the South African Police Service together with Border Management, Immigration, SANDF, Fire and Rescue, Emergency services, Department of Transport, Provincial and local traffic and municipal officials. The focus of the roadblock was on preventing trio crimes ,stop and search of vehicles and persons, search for drugs, illegal firearms and counterfeit goods, enforce road safety, prevention of stock theft, prevention on non-conveyance of illegal nonferrous metals, prevention of drug trafficking, undocumented persons and the prevention of human trafficking. Mayor Stochwe and General Vellem also engaged with motorists including Reverends that is preparing for the Easter weekend services and shared safety tip pamphlets and Easter eggs educating them in keeping safe on the road.
The roadblock successes included the following: The Joe Gqabi District Commissioner Major General Lindelwa Vellem emphasized the fact that the SAPS and all law enforcement agencies are dedicated to enforce the law and enhancing visibility through regular roadblocks and checkpoints and enforce strict adherence to rules and regulations.
She also urged road users to work together with law enforcement agencies in order to reduce fatalities on the road in order for everyone to enjoy a safe and secure Easter weekend.
