POLOKWANE – The relentless efforts that are continuously displayed by the dedicated men and women in blue in combating crime across the Limpopo province have subsequently yielded positive results in apprehension of 870 suspects for various offenses. The suspects were nabbed during Operation Kukula that commenced on 25 until Sunday 31 March 2024. During the operation, 10 suspects were arrested for illegal possession of firearms, 07 for illegal possession of ammunition, 05 for Contravention of Firearms Control Act, 14 for possession of dangerous weapons, 05 for dealing in drugs, 03 for possession of illegal cigarettes, 24 for illegal dealing in liquor, 01 for possession of counterfeit goods, 01 for Second Hand Goods Act including 24 for possession of drugs. Moreover, significant arrests were effected comprising of 18 for robbery with aggravating circumstances, 06 for business robbery, 03 for robbery residence, 04 for murder, 02 for attempted murder, 07 for rape, 02 for attempted rape, 68 for assault GBH, 26 for assault common and 553 illegal immigrants. In addition, 13 suspects were nabbed for burglary at business premises while 16 for burglary at residential, 07 for theft of motor vehicle and motorcycle, 20 for malicious damage to property, 17 for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, 01 wanted suspect and 243 for other crimes. Police managed to confiscate 22,6ml of liquor, 131 ammunition, R3300 in cash, 02 cellphones, 400 counterfeit goods, 16 dangerous weapons, 27,518kg of dagga, 22 sachets of Crystal Meth drugs, 154 packets of Nyaope drugs, 11 firearms, 07 motor vehicles and 4231 packets of tobacco products. The Limpopo Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe applauded the multidisciplinary forces for the remarkable successes that were achieved throughout the Province during Operation Kukula and further encouraged the Police to continue serving the members of the community with pride and dignity. Some of the arrested suspects have already started to appear before various Magistrate’s courts across the Province. End
