Media Statement GQEBERHA – Operation “Bamba”, a joint operation between SAPS and NMB Metro Police and various other role players, continues to have success in taking firearms off our streets. A 30-year-old shop owner was arrested on 10 April 2025 at about 09:00, after a 9mm pistol and 10 rounds of ammunition was found in a shop in Gerald Smith, Kamesh. He has been charged for the illegal possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Later the same day at about 19:30 two male suspects were arrested in Blackburn Street, Govan Mbeki, Kwadwesi for the illegal possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The firearm, a 9mm pistol and 6 rounds of ammunition was discovered in the glove compartment of a Toyota Quantum minibus. Operation Bamba is part of the intervention strategy that is aimed at stabilizing the rise in contact crimes in the northern areas of Nelson Mandela Bay. The SAPS continue to implement national intervention operations to prevent and combat anything that may threaten the safety and security of any community. Ends
