ZWELITSHA – A 41-year-old employee from the Department of Labour was arrested yesterday for corruption at Amalinda Main Road, East London. Members attached to Anti-Corruption Unit received information from two victims about a person who visited their business places and demanded money. According to the information, it is alleged that this demand started in July 2023 when the suspect collected money, claiming that he is going to register their employees for UIF benefits. The victims would pay a collected amount of R3000.00, and recently, they paid an amount of R1300.00 to the suspect. Thorough investigation by police members led to his arrest yesterday at Amalinda Main Road whilst in his vehicle collecting R1000.00 from these victims. The suspect has appeared before the East London Magistrate’s Court today and has been released on R1000-00 bail. He will reappear in court on 19 September 2024. Ends
