Houston, Texas – In a prestigious ceremony held during the Third Annual Houston Global Trade Conference and Expo, Diana Nebo, Managing Director of the National Port Authority (NPA), received the Eighteenth Congressional District of Texas Recognition for her outstanding commitment and dedication.
The award was presented by Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a renowned advocate for Africa and the Republic of Liberia.
During the event, Congresswoman Lee praised Madam Nebo for her unwavering contribution to the communities and emphasized the significance of her efforts in strengthening trade and economic development.
The Congresswoman’s recognition highlighted the remarkable achievements of Madam Nebo and the NPA, acknowledging their important role in the global trade landscape. Expressing her gratitude for the recognition, Madam Nebo conveyed greetings from President George Manneh Weah.
She expressed her inspiration and hope for Liberia, recognizing the support of various distinguished event supporters, including the United States government, the City of Houston, Minister of Commerce and Industry Mawine Diggs, representatives from Fire Stone Liberia, APM Terminals Liberia, Liberia Revenue Authority, and other institutions present.
She also expressed appreciation for the hardworking Scholarship Committee members and NPA staff.
Furthermore, the Houston International Trade Development Council (HITDC), in collaboration with the NPA Scholarship Committee, officially launched the NPA Educational Scholarship program.
The program aims to raise funds for academic scholarships, benefiting deserving Liberian students and/or NPA employees.
At the event, Madam Nebo presented a symbolic check of Ten Thousand United States Dollars on behalf of the NPA, reaffirming President George M. Weah’s commitment to educating and training the Liberian workforce of the future.
The NPA Scholarship Committee, chaired by Dr. Dwedor Morais Ford, will manage the scholarship program in collaboration with HITDC, a non-profit organization based in Houston, Texas.
The NPA Scholarship Program (NPASP) is open to Liberian students and students of Liberian descent residing in Liberia, as well as NPA employees seeking to further their education. It enables them to pursue post-secondary education at a U.S. or Liberian college or university.
The scholarship committee also plans to develop experiential learning, study abroad, and student exchange programs in the future, subject to funding availability.
Madam Cynthia L. Blandford, Managing Director of Blandford Thompson Consulting, announced a personal contribution of USD Five Hundred on behalf of Liberia’s Minister of Commerce, Madam Mawine Diggs.
She expressed her honor and privilege to be part of this initiative and her belief that the scholarship program will strengthen the NPA as a national treasure. Blandford looks forward to working together with the NPA to realize their strategic vision of becoming a premier port authority in the West African region.
As the NPA and HITDC join forces to empower Liberian students through education, the NPA Scholarship Program is expected to play a vital role in enhancing technical skills in port management, logistics, administration, and leadership development.
The program aims to improve the quality of life for Liberians and contribute to the economic growth of the country. With the launch of the scholarship program and the recognition bestowed upon Diana Nebo, the NPA and its partners take significant strides towards fostering trade and educational opportunities for deserving Liberian students.
