Media Statement KIMBERLEY – The Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola together with the Frances Baard District Commissioner, Major General Charlotte Makgari and Provincial Heads led New Year crime prevention operations in the greater Kimberley on Tuesday, 31 December 2024. Operations were executed simultaneously across all five districts in the province. Disruptive actions focused on alcohol related crimes, contact crimes, property related crimes, and dangerous weapons. Liquor outlets were vigorously policed as well gatherings, resulting in the closure of three unlicensed outlets and the confiscation of a significant amount of alcohol. Actions included vehicle check points, roadblocks compliance inspections at spaza shops, and liquor outlets, especially regarding adherence to closing times. Stop and search actions were executed where dangerous weapons and drugs were confiscated. The men and women in blue were out in full force, with newly appointed police constables who reinforced ground forces, adding to more boots on the ground. These collective efforts resulted in the arrest of 72 suspects for crimes, including murder, attempted murder and assault GBH. Lieutenant General Otola commended the members for their tireless efforts and ensured that inhabitants of the Northern Cape are and feel safe. She further extended her appreciation to the public for their cooperation during festive season celebrations and sharing valuable information with law enforcement. These actions will remain steadfast beyond the festive season, and the space will be squeezed for criminals.
