Media Statement NORTHERN CAPE – The Provincial commissioner of Northern cape Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola, accompanied by the deputy Provincial commissioners policing Major General Johny Beesnaar and Corporate Service Major General (Doctor) Thabo Mphuthi and the management of SAPS embarked on GBV engagements with female employees of the organization in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District, under the theme: Driving Success Together. Different government departments comprising, the Department of Social Development, Department of Correctional Service, DTSL, NPA and The district Community Police Forum, formed part of the engagements and continues to support the police in the fight against the scourge of Gender Based Violence. Female law enforcers were encouraged not to keep quiet about any form of abuse, and to walk away from toxic relationships that may lead to serious harm or even death. In her keynote address, the Provincial Commissioner encouraged the attendees not to find themselves trapped in abusive relationships due to public perception and fear of economic situations. We have a responsibility to rid the community of Gender Based Violence and contribute effectively to a Violence free society, women should avoid staying in abusive relationships due to financial dependency, said General Otola. She further emphasized that members should empower themselves by means of skills development and staying positive at all times. The South African Police Service remains committed in ensuring that women and children, are and feel safe at all times.
