Media Statement KIMBERLEY – On Friday, 12 April 2024 the Operation Vala Umgodi team under the operational command of Lieutenant Colonel Boitumelo Seleke, executed disruptive actions in the ZF Mgcawu District to focus on illegal mining activities and other related crimes. The team operationalised information in Postmasburg regarding drug related activities in Boichoko, Newton, and Marantheng. One suspect, aged 48, was arrested after he was found in possession of mandrax tablets and dagga. Several cellphones were also confiscated. The stop and search actions in Marantheng led to the arrest of three suspects after seven firearms were found in their possession. Four Taurus 38 special revolvers and three Rossi 38 special revolvers were confiscated from the trio. The suspects were unable to produce firearm licenses, permits, and ownership of the firearms. Two men aged 29 and 38 respectively, and one women aged 45 were arrested for possession on an unlicensed firearm. The suspects are expected to appear in the Postmasburg Magistrate’s Court soon. The Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola applauded the members for their continued efforts and robust approach towards drugs and illegal firearms in the province.
