Media Statement UPINGTON – The South African Police Service Management in the Northern Cape applauded the meticulous investigation by Constable Andy Mona attached to the Paballelo Detectives for securing two life imprisonment sentences that were handed down to the duo accused of murder on 07 October 2024. On 4 October 2018, Vuyisile Bidi (26), Joseph Stryner (23), Theo Muller (30), and Tebogo Modise (22) forcefully entered a residence in Paballelo and attacked the occupants, and the victims tried to flee. Vuyisile Bidi and Joseph Stryner went after 29-year-old Warren Swartz (deceased), who ran away and assaulted him with stones and a sheep sheer, who succumbed to his injuries on the scene. The police attended the scene, and the suspects were later arrested and charged with house-breaking with the intention to commit crime, murder and attempted murder. The Northern Cape High Court found Bidi and Stryner guilty of murder and sentenced them both to life imprisonment each and 3 years for House-breaking, which will run concurrently with the life sentence The third accused, Theo Muller, was sentenced to 3 months imprisonment for assault, wholly suspended for 5 years, while the fourth accused,Tebogo Modise died before the conclusion of the court case.
The determination of Constable Andy Mona is appreciated and acknowledged for ensuring that justice was served for the victim and for restoring the confidence in the justice system.
