KIMBERLEY – The Deputy Provincial Commissioner (DPC) for Policing in the Northern Cape,Major General Johnny Besnaar engaged in a walk about in the Pixley Ka Seme District and was accompanied by the Pixley Ka Seme(PKS) District Commissioner(DC), Major General Nomana Mtukushe and Provincial Heads. The first phase kicked off in De Aar where Major General Besnaar engaged with the 27 Station Commissioners and Visible Policing Commanders in the Pixley Ka Seme district. During the engagement, General Besnaar outlined his expectations in terms of the crime situation and what he expects from commanders. The second phase simultaneously comprised of disruptive actions in Prieska during which Provincial Components, the Tactical Response Team, De Aar K9, Prieska SAPS, the Department of Home Affairs, Traffic Department, Liquor and Gambling Board and the Prieska Community Police Forum and structures participated in multi-disciplinary disruptive actions including raids at shebeen and drug outlets. Compliance inspections were conducted at shops and liquor outlets in the greater Prieska policing area. The blitz operations also yielded successes at a roadblock on the N10 road near Prieska. During the roadblock 48 vehicles and 77 persons were stopped and searched, while 7 fines were issued amounting to R3450-00 for different traffic offences. A 33-year-old male was arrested for possession of tik and mandrax while a large amount of concoction was confiscated and destroyed during shebeen raids. Phase three concluded the events in the Pixley Ka Seme with a community engagement at the Omega Community Hall in Bonteheuwel in Prieska with the Deputy Provincial Commissioner and the District Commissioner of Pixley Ka Seme district, SAPS Provincial Heads and several Departments and stakeholders engaging with the community. The community engagement started with a devotion by Apostle Teswill Van Rooyen followed by the welcoming by the Siyathemba Mayor, Mr Andrew Phillips. Major General Nomana Mtukushe relayed the purpose of the day while messages of support were delivered by Ms Thandokazi Ludaka from the Department of Social Development and Johannes Van Schalkwyk, Chairperson of Prieska Community Police Forum (CPF). The community raised issues and concerns which were answered by the panel which consisted of Major General Johnny Besnaar, Major General Nomana Mtukushe, Siyathemba Mayor, Mr Andrew Phillips, the Prieska CPF Secretary, Mr Eben Faro, Home Affairs representative, Samukelisiwe Daniso, Department of Health, Sister Jane Neels, Bernice Swarts from the National Prosecuting Authority and Siyathemba Municipality, Thomas Van Staden. The Keynote address was delivered by Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Policing, Major General Johnny Besnaar who commended the Prieska Community for their attendance and for the assistance offered to the SAPS and all other relevant role-players. He also assured the community that the police will be out in full force with more boots on the ground during and beyond the Easter holidays. He also requested and urged the communities to practice road safety and continue to be the eyes and ears of the police as crime fighting is everyone’s responsibility. “If you see something, say something!”
The day was concluded with acknowledgements by Ward Councillor, Ronald February. The programme was directed by the Provincial Head for Pro-Active Policing, Brigadier Irene Kopeledi.
