Limpopo Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba has delivered laboratory results of the funeral food sample to Ga_ Maja community members at the Traditional Tribal Office on Wednesday afternoon (20 May 2026).

The developments come after six people and a seven-year-old child lost their lives after consuming food prepared at a funeral gathering on 18 April 2026.
It is alleged that from (18_20 April 2026) over 120 people fell severely ill with vomiting and diarrhea after consuming the food.
According to police, over 70 people were hospitalised in Lebowakgomo due to the incident.
Premier Ramathuba said the toxicology result recalled on 14 May 2026 indicates that no traces of poison, chemicals, or drugs were detected in the sample that was analyzed
” At this stage, the findings therefore do not support allegations that poison was present in the specimens examined,” stated the provincial Premier
While the provincial government awaits the release of the histology reports, members of the community are urged to exercise hygiene before preparing food and also avoid spreading unverified information on social media.
Premier assured the traditional council to communicate openly as further reports become available.
