Media Statement PRETORIA – The South African Police Service (SAPS) wishes to discourage the sharing of old videos that seek to portray the SAPS in a negative light. In a video that has been widely shared and purported to be a recent video, two SAPS vehicles and an ambulance are seen burning. This incident did take place in April 2020 in Boikhutso, Lichtenburg during a community protest. In another video, SAPS members can be seen being attacked by a crowd in Sunnyside, Pretoria during a time when police were tracing suspects for drug dealing. This incident took place in 2019 and at the time, a suspect was arrested in connection with the attack on police. The recirculation of these videos only seek to cause unnecessary panic and confusion. It is for this reason that the, SAPS continues to encourage members of the public to only share videos that will strengthen crime fighting initiatives and activities. Ends Enquiries:
