Media Statement NELSPRUIT – A multi-disciplinary operation, led by Crime Intelligence of the Police, uncovered illicit goods, as well as suspected green stones, to the estimated value of more than R12 Million. The sting operation was carried out at Rocky’s Drift near White River, outside Nelspruit today, Friday 07 March 2025. The team consisting of members of the Police from Crime Intelligence, Organized Crime Unit (both National and Provincial Units), Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) Unit (both National and Provincial Units), Public Order Policing (POP) Unit, Visible Policing members, and SARS (Customs), South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA). The Sting operation was carried out after Crime Intelligence Unit gathered information about illicit goods that were stored in various units in the area hence the operation was executed subsequent to the search warrant, for 17 units, was obtained. During the operation various items were found, including suspected green stones, cosmetic products, food items fireworks, pills (tablets), hair pieces etc. Though the owners of the storage facilities were not found during the search, the operation was conducted in the presence of the security personnel. The items were seized as part of the Police investigation. The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr.) Zeph Mkhwanazi has commended the team for the job well done. “We will continue to conduct similar operations as we previously did and we cannot allow lawlessness to prevail under our watch. The suspected green stones suggests that illegal mining is in the picture here but we have involved the Department of Minerals and Energy to assist in this regard,” said the General. Ends
