Media Statement CAPE TOWN – In an intelligence driven operation, a multi-disciplinary team comprising Anti-Gang Unit investigators, Crime Intelligence (Counter Gangs and Narcotics) and Visible Policing Anti-Gang Unit members swooped on storage facilities on Monday evening, 03 March 2025, in Bellville South as well as in Stikland and seized illegal firearms, ammunition, explosives and drugs. The operation, which was the culmination of weeks of observing the movements of suspects resulted in the discovery. At the first location in Bellville South, the following was found: • Three AK 47 rifles • One R 5 rifle • One assault rifle • Twelve 9mm pistols • Three Uzzi • Four shotguns • Two revolvers * 50 000 Mandrax tables * Six M26 grenades and * A large quantity of various assorted rounds of ammunition. The operation has led the team later in the evening to another storage facility in Stikland where a package containing two kilograms of heroin was confiscated. Two suspects, a 41-year-old woman and a 47-year-old man have been arrested and they are scheduled to appear in court soon on charges of illegal possession of firearms, ammunition and drugs as well as the possession of illegal explosives. As the investigation continues, the possibility of further arrests effected cannot be ruled out. The efforts of the team have been commended by SAPS management as the Western Cape battles shooting incidents that result murder and attempted murder cases.
