Media Statement KIMBERLEY – The SAPS Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola and her management welcomes the 66 years’ prison sentence handed down by the De Aar Regional Court to 47-year-old Coert Botha following a guilty verdict imposed by the Court on 13 counts of sexual offences committed in De Aar between September 2019 and April 2021. The Court heard that the accused lured young boys between the ages of 9 and 14 to his residence acts of sexual violation including rape were committed. Police investigations led to more victims that resulted in the arrest of the accused, who was then charged with 13 counts of sexual offences. The accused was found guilty on all 13 charges and sentenced for rape, sexual violation, exposure and display of pornographic material, causing a child to witness self-masturbation and attempt to commit an act of sexual violation. All counts will run concurrently and the accused’s name will be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders and he was further declared unfit to possess a firearm. Lieutenant General Otola praised the Investigating and Prosecution team, Detective Sergeant Ilse Fan and Advocate Tevaughnay Van Wyk, for the thorough investigative work and presentation of the case. The police will remain relentless in ensuring that justice is served for victims of GBVF.
