Media Statement POTCHEFSTROOM – Information received from Crime Intelligence in the Tshwane District on Thursday, 31 October 2024, was operationalized by Brits Crime Intelligence, Brits Trio Task Team, Hartbeespoortdam Crime Prevention, Brits Operational Command Centre (OCC) and PPS Security. This led to the surveillance and tracing of a grey Mercedes Benz with six occupants, who were intercepted at about 14:50 near the Brits Traffic Department. The men were searched together with the vehicle and that led to the discovery of three firearms and ammunition, hidden in the vehicle. Two of the firearms had their serial numbers removed. The men could not account for the firearms and were immediately arrested for being in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Initial investigations linked the men to seven other cases, ranging from robbery to murder, reported between June and October 2024 in Temba and Hammanskraal, Gauteng Province. It was also determined that one of the firearms was stolen in July 2024 in Kameeldrift during a house robbery. All six suspects, including four Zimbabwean foreign nationals, aged between 20 and 35, will appear before the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 4 November 2024. The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, congratulated members for their collaboration and hard work that led to the arrests. He said police will continue to work hard to ensure that illegal and lethal firearms that are in the wrong hands, are removed from society. Kindly find photos of items seized by police. Ends
