The operational ready detail, deployed in Delft, proceeded to an address in Malunie Street in N2 Gateway in Delft South where they entered the premises and ensued with a search. They recovered a Taurus revolver and a 7.65 pistol with ammunition hidden in a bag on top of a cupboard in the bedroom. As a result they detained an adult man on a charge of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Meanwhile the members deployed in Philippi policing precinct to combat the ongoing gang violence in the area were busy with a tracing operation in Hanover Park during which they entered a home in Como Court at around 20:15 and searched the premises as well as the occupants. They recovered a .38 special revolver in a rag, hidden in the oven warmer. The discovery resulted in the arrest of a 50-year-old man on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition. In an unrelated incident the police members pounced on an address in Surwood Walk, known as a gang stronghold. Upon entering the premises they restrained the occupants and searched the entire premises. When searching an outside toilet facility, they discovered a revolver hidden in the roof. They seized the firearm and detained a 50-year-old man on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. Once charged, the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Bellville and Athlone Magistrates’ courts on the mentioned charges.
