Media Statement POLOKWANE – The Police arrested 11 suspects at Tubatse, on Friday 15 November 2024, for charges of extortion, reported at one of the mines at Tubatse policing area in Sekhukhune district. According to reports, the members of Provincial Organised Crime Unit, were notified about the incident, whereby members of the local business forum, handed their memorandum of complaints to the mine during October 2024. Following other engagements between the mine and the forum, they did not agree on some of the terms including demanding to be given mine tenders. They allegedly threatened to close and disrupt the mining activities, on 15 November 2024, if the mine does not meet their demands. On Friday, 15 November 2024 at around 12:30, the 11 members attached to the business forum gathered at the mine gate, and they were immediately arrested. They will appear before the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 18 November 2024. The police investigations are ongoing. Ends
