Nedbank takes Edwin Sodi to court over R570,000 credit card debt
Nedbank has launched legal proceedings against controversial businessman Edwin Sodi, seeking to recover more than half a million rand in unpaid credit card debt.
According to court documents filed at the Johannesburg High Court on March 25, 2025, the financial institution is pursuing a writ of execution to attach Sodi’s assets in a bid to reclaim R570,248 allegedly owed to the bank. The debt, which includes outstanding credit card bills and an overdraft facility, had accumulated as of August 26, 2024.
The move comes amid growing scrutiny of Sodi’s extravagant lifestyle. The businessman reportedly racked up substantial bills in 2023, including R18,000 per night at a luxury London hotel and R40,000 spent at high-end fashion retailer Louis Vuitton.
Nedbank claims Sodi failed to respond to multiple written demands for payment. The latest case adds to the mounting legal and financial woes facing Sodi, who is already embroiled in several other high-profile court battles.
