The Board of the National Housing Finance Corporation (NHFC) confirms that the Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Azola Mayekiso, has been placed on precautionary suspension with immediate effect.
The decision follows serious allegations made against the CEO as well as ongoing parallel investigations by public watchdog bodies which were formally reported through established channels and require independent review. The decision aligns to the Board’s fiduciary duty to address all workplace transgressions with due process and transparency while taking the sensitive nature of the matters into account.
The precautionary suspension is not a finding of wrongdoing. It is a procedural step that allows the investigation to proceed transparently, independently, and without interference or the perception of interference. The Board is committed to ensuring that the process is handled thoroughly and fairly, in line with the organisation’s governance policies and legal requirements.
All NHFC operations, funding programmes, and strategic partnerships continue without disruption under the leadership of the Acting CEO and the Executive Management Team.
The NHFC remains fully committed to its mandate of enabling access to affordable housing finance for South Africans.
To safeguard the integrity of the investigation, the Board will not be issuing further public comment at this stage. Updates will be provided once the process concludes.
