The first session of the National Dialogue is underway in Pretoria, aiming to tackle some of the country’s most pressing social and economic challenges.
However, the gathering begins under a cloud of concern, with critics questioning whether the process is being rushed and doubting how effectively its outcomes will be implemented.
Several prominent foundations — including those linked to former leaders and respected figures — have chosen not to participate, saying the event has strayed from its citizen-driven roots.
Some political parties, including key GNU partners, are also absent from the proceedings. Despite this, organisers say the convention will set the agenda for discussions intended to shape the nation’s future.
