N1 North Reopens After Fatal Crash Near Polokwane
POLOKWANE: N1 North near Mekete Lodge outside Polokwane has been cleared and reopened to traffic following a fatal collision on Thursday morning.
The crash involved a Volkswagen Polo and a loaded truck transporting steel pipes.
Preliminary reports indicate that the Polo was overtaking when it collided head-on with the truck. The male driver of the Polo died at the scene.
No injuries were reported among the occupants of the truck.
The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety said the road was temporarily closed to allow emergency and law enforcement teams to attend to the scene and conduct the necessary procedures.
The department extended its condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased.
Motorists are urged to exercise caution, remain vigilant and obey the rules of the road as traffic returns to normal along the N1 North.
Authorities have again called on motorists to avoid dangerous overtaking and to exercise patience, particularly on busy routes.
