VHEMBE: Police in Musina have arrested a 48-year-old male suspect for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl at Matswale Phase 12, Musina, in the Vhembe District on Thursday night, 07 May 2026 at approximately 20:00.
The incident came to light on Friday, 08 May 2026, when the victim returned home from school and was questioned by her mother, who had noticed her strange behaviour. The child then disclosed that her neighbour had followed her to the toilet the previous night, covered her mouth with his hand, and raped her. He subsequently threatened to kill her should she disclose the incident to anyone.
The matter was immediately reported to the Musina Police Station. The victim was taken to the hospital, where she was medically examined, and the examination confirmed that she had been sexually assaulted. All relevant stakeholders were promptly summoned. The case was subsequently transferred to the Musina Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit for specialist investigation.
Acting swiftly, members of the FCS Unit apprehended the suspect without delay. He is expected to appear before the Musina Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 11 May 2026, on a charge of rape.
The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has condemned the incident. “This is a despicable act committed against an innocent child by a person who was trusted as a neighbour. No child should ever have to endure such trauma in their own community.
As we observe Child Protection Month, I want to reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the safety and protection of every child in this province. We will not rest until every perpetrator who preys on our children faces the full might of the law.” Concluded Lt General Hadebe.
