Media Statement Ekurhuleni District Commissioner Major General Anna Sithole has welcomed the life term imprisonment sentence imposed recently by the Johannesburg Magistrate Court to Vilankulu Arlindo (25), who shot and killed a Priest’s son in a church. The accused was found guilty and sentenced on 14 June 2024. On 16 June 2023 at around 18:00 one of the local churches at Buhle Park, in Elsburg, Ekurhuleni, was about to commence with a youth day service when two unknown males entered the church. One had a firearm. The suspects robbed the congregants of their valuables and later shot and killed the priest’s son. When the suspects fled the scene, they were apprehended by members of the community. The Community members beat them resulting in one of the suspects to succumb to his injuries at the hospital. One of the suspects survived. The murder and Business robbery case was opened at Elsburg SAPS and the docket was assigned to Warrant Officer Sam Molopyane who left no stone unturned connecting all the necessary dots and submitted all the evidence at court to ensure that the suspect who survived faces the full might of the law. The accused Vilankulu Arlindo will be serving a life term in jail and he was further declared unfit to possess a firearm. The District Commissioner Major General Anna Sithole commended the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Molopyane for putting more efforts in his investigations, to ensure that the heartless criminals get no space to breath in Ekurhuleni.
