Media Statement POTCHEFSTROOM – A 21-year-old Itumeleng Mbombo was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment by the Atamelang Regional Court on Tuesday, 23 April 2024, for killing his girlfriend’s eight-year-old son, Gosiame Ferris. The accused was also declared unfit to possess a firearm in terms of Section 103 of the Firearms Control Act, 2000 (Act No. 60 of 2000). Evidence led in court indicated that on Tuesday, 22 August 2023, police in Delareyville were called to a shack in Sonderwater Section, Vrisgewacht Village where the body of Gosiame was found buried in a shallow grave, under the convict’s bed. Following the discovery, Mbombo was immediately arrested. The post mortem report revealed that Mbombo strangled the boy to death, before burying him. The Provincial Commissioner of Police in North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena and Dr Rachel Makhari applauded the Investigation Officer, Constable Ntswaki Madibo of Delareyville Detectives as well as the Prosecutor, Mr Maniekhas, for their teamwork that resulted in the conviction. They further said that the sentence, will without doubt send a clear message that those who commit crime especially against the vulnerable, will be prosecuted without mercy and sent to jail. Ends
