Media Statement EASTERN CAPE – Cash-In-Transit Interim Task Team of Serious Organised Crime Investigation working together with Tactical Response Team (TRT), Mthatha Bomb Disposal Unit and Mthatha Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC) members arrested a 41 year old suspect for possession of commercial explosives and explosive devices on 3 January 2025. On 3 January 2025 at approximately 21:00, a multi-disciplinary team executed a search warrant that was authorised for a particular homestead at Mdlankomo location in Libode. This come after a pending investigations against the suspect as he was allegedly involved in the planning of Automated Teller Machine (ATM) bombing. On their arrival at the aforesaid, the joint team found the owner of the house inside the premises and a search was conducted. Upon searching, the police discovered inside the blue plastic bag eight (8) wrapped commercial explosives as well as yellow and white cords explosive wires. The explosives were seized for further investigation.
The suspect was arrested instantly for being in possession of explosives, and he is expected to appear before Ngqeleni Magistrate’s court on 6 January 2025.
